EllaLink Lands in Mauritania – A New Era for Atlantic Digital Connectivity

A cable landing in Nouadhibou marks a turning point – not just for Mauritania, but for the future of digital connectivity across the Atlantic world.

The landing in Nouadhibou was more than an engineering milestone. It was the moment Mauritania gained a new international digital route — and with it, a new level of resilience.

Until this landing, Mauritania relied on a single international subsea cable connection. A single point of failure for an entire country’s digital access to the world.

That changes now.

The infrastructure behind the connection

EllaLink’s new branch, more than 670 kilometres long, runs from the main EllaLink transatlantic trunk to a brand new cable landing station in Nouadhibou, the first subsea telecom cable landing station ever built in the city.

Built by Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) using the latest optical technology, it delivers multi-gigabit connectivity from day one, scalable to multi-terabit capacity, with the headroom to support decades of growth.

The landing station itself was built by EllaLink as an open facility, accessible to all operators, reinforcing EllaLink’s commitment to neutral, trusted infrastructure.

What this means for Mauritania

Through this connection, Mauritania strengthens its capacity to secure its communications with the world, diversify its international access points, and guarantee the stability of its digital services.

The practical impact is significant:

Co-funded by the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and the European Union through the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF Digital), this project is part of a broader commitment to building a trusted digital corridor across the Atlantic.

Together with its Mauritanian partners, EllaLink is ready to develop new services, regional extensions, and cross-border projects that will turn this infrastructure into a true engine for growth and cooperation.
