Best Subsea Innovation: The SUBMERSE Project

EllaLink shortlisted for Best Subsea Innovation for the Global Connectivity Awards 2025

Our nomination for Best Subsea Innovation reflects the transformative impact of the SUBMERSE project

SUBMERSE is not just about connecting continents – it redefines the role of submarine cable infrastructure by enabling breakthrough scientific research in oceanography, climate science, and marine biology.

To date, the project has produced more than 15 peer-reviewed publications, while embracing FAIR data principles to maximise societal benefit.

By integrating with global research networks and developing open-source software tools for real-time data sharing (including earthquake detection modules), EllaLink empowers international scientific communities and public stakeholders to use subsea data for early warning systems and environmental monitoring.

What truly sets EllaLink apart is our rapid progress: within the first year, SUBMERSE moved from deployment to operational data collection and open software release.

Investment extends not only to hardware but also to crucial calibration activities and collaborative community workshops, ensuring reliability and scientific value.

Our work is making tangible differences for research, civil protection, and digital infrastructure, placing subsea cables at the heart of both the digital revolution and efforts to better understand and protect our planet.
